ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada in 1963 and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA and BFA in 1988.

In 1990 I had my first solo show at Amdur Gallery in Austin, that was favorably reviewed in the Austin Chronicle . After moving back to Toronto for a short time, I returned to Austin to work on my art and continued showing in and around Texas.

In 1996 I had my first solo New York show at the Mary Anthony Gallery. This group of work included a variety of media and materials inspired by the figure. In addition to sculptures cast out of acrylic resin, bronze and plaster, I showed mixed media work on paper as well as monoprints.

In “The View from Here” a one person show in 1998 at Gallery Lombardi in Austin, I portrayed the figure either falling or floating in space. In addition to mixed media on paper I installed a series of bronze sculptures suspended from the ceiling. The Austin Chronicle named it one of the top ten shows of the year.

One of my monoprints, an abstracted set of wings, was the thematic image of the movie “Cast Away” with Tom Hanks released in 2000. This image was prominently displayed on Fed Ex boxes that appeared throughout the movie. Variations of my wings were also fabricated into large sculptures that represented the work of an artist character in the film. The Hollywood Reporter and Arts and Antiques featured the art I did for “Cast Away.”

I moved to Wyoming in 2002 and although I still work with the figure, I am influenced by the mountain landscape, weather and light. In 2006 my painting entitled “Disconnect” was chosen for the Wyoming Governor’s Arts Award Show. In 2008 a book of my collected work “A Gathering “ has just been published.

I continue to work in Wyoming and show in Jackson as well as in Texas. My work is represented in collections around the country.
