Sarah Moore
As an artist, I am interested in the sensory relationship between the viewer and the art piece as it relates to the materiality or the interpretation of the piece.
I am also interested in how the art piece can change the feeling – the sensory experience of a room.
The material, usually the initial inspiration, is often the part
of the piece that engages the senses. Examples of this are, masking tape,dryer sheets, beeswax, dental floss, and hard candy.
Other sensory engaging non-tangible elements I’ve used are movement, sound, and light. When working on a physical art piece, I am usually involved in 3-d or installation works of which there is always a strong
repetitive emphasis – whether it be looping masking tape, hanging a grid of dryer sheets, sewing a line, or lining up blocks of candy. Otherwise, I have developed a
strong interest in the medium of sound and video, which also incorporate repetition.
Of the sound pieces I have developed thus far, there remains a repetitive ticking or beat that provides the foundation to tie all the sounds together.
